1طسٓمٓ ١Ta. Sin. Mim.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, Allah knows the meaning of these letters; there is also a report from Muhammad ibn Ka‘b that they are taken from names of Allah.2تِلۡكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ ٢These are revelations of the Scripture that maketh plain.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, these verses are composed of simple letters; “mubin” means very clear and bright, and the Book’s inimitability is evident.3لَعَلَّكَ بَٰخِعࣱ نَّفۡسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُواْ مُؤۡمِنِينَ ٣It may be that thou tormentest thyself (O Muhammad) because they believe not.4إِن نَّشَأۡ نُنَزِّلۡ عَلَيۡهِم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ ءَايَةࣰ فَظَلَّتۡ أَعۡنَٰقُهُمۡ لَهَا خَٰضِعِينَ ٤If We will, We can send down on them from the sky a portent so that their necks would remain bowed before it.5وَمَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن ذِكۡرࣲ مِّنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ مُحۡدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُواْ عَنۡهُ مُعۡرِضِينَ ٥Never cometh there unto them a fresh reminder from the Beneficent One, but they turn away from it.6فَقَدۡ كَذَّبُواْ فَسَيَأۡتِيهِمۡ أَنۢبَـٰٓؤُاْ مَا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ ٦Now they have denied (the Truth); but there will come unto them tidings of that whereat they used to scoff.7أَوَلَمۡ يَرَوۡاْ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ كَمۡ أَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجࣲ كَرِيمٍ ٧Have they not seen the earth, how much of every fruitful kind We make to grow therein.8إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةࣰۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ٨Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, in plants is proof of Allah’s oneness, the breadth of His mercy, the greatness of His power and the reality of the Hereafter.9وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ٩And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, He is mighty and can take retribution whenever He wills; if He delays, it is because He is merciful.10وَإِذۡ نَادَىٰ رَبُّكَ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱئۡتِ ٱلۡقَوۡمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ١٠And when thy Lord called Moses, saying: Go unto the wrongdoing folk.11قَوۡمَ فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ أَلَا يَتَّقُونَ ١١The folk of Pharaoh. Will they not ward off (evil).12قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّيٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُكَذِّبُونِ ١٢He said: My Lord! Lo! I fear that they will deny me.13وَيَضِيقُ صَدۡرِي وَلَا يَنطَلِقُ لِسَانِي فَأَرۡسِلۡ إِلَىٰ هَٰرُونَ ١٣And I shall be embarrassed, and my tongue will not speak plainly, therefor send for Aaron (to help me).14وَلَهُمۡ عَلَيَّ ذَنۢبࣱ فَأَخَافُ أَن يَقۡتُلُونِ ١٤And they have a crime against me, so I fear that they will kill me.15قَالَ كَلَّاۖ فَٱذۡهَبَا بِـَٔايَٰتِنَآۖ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّسۡتَمِعُونَ ١٥He said: Nay, verily. So go ye twain with Our tokens. Lo! We shall be with you, Hearing.16فَأۡتِيَا فِرۡعَوۡنَ فَقُولَآ إِنَّا رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٦And come together unto Pharaoh and say: Lo! we bear a message of the Lord of the Worlds.17أَنۡ أَرۡسِلۡ مَعَنَا بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَـٰٓءِيلَ ١٧(Saying): Let the Children of Israel go with us.18قَالَ أَلَمۡ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدࣰا وَلَبِثۡتَ فِينَا مِنۡ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ ١٨(Pharaoh) said (unto Moses): Did we not rear thee among us as a child? And thou didst dwell many years of thy life among us.19وَفَعَلۡتَ فَعۡلَتَكَ ٱلَّتِي فَعَلۡتَ وَأَنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ ١٩And thou didst that thy deed which thou didst, and thou wast one of the ingrates.20قَالَ فَعَلۡتُهَآ إِذࣰا وَأَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ ٢٠He said: I did it then, when I was of those who are astray.21فَفَرَرۡتُ مِنكُمۡ لَمَّا خِفۡتُكُمۡ فَوَهَبَ لِي رَبِّي حُكۡمࣰا وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ٢١Then I fled from you when I feared you, and my Lord vouchsafed me a command and appointed me (of the number) of those sent (by Him).22وَتِلۡكَ نِعۡمَةࣱ تَمُنُّهَا عَلَيَّ أَنۡ عَبَّدتَّ بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَـٰٓءِيلَ ٢٢And this is the past favour wherewith thou reproachest me: that thou hast enslaved the Children of Israel.23قَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَمَا رَبُّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٢٣Pharaoh said: And what is the Lord of the Worlds.24قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ ٢٤(Moses) said: Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye had but sure belief.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, if you have investigated things and become certain that no event can be without cause, you will know this.25قَالَ لِمَنۡ حَوۡلَهُۥٓ أَلَا تَسۡتَمِعُونَ ٢٥(Pharaoh) said unto those around him: Hear ye not.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, he meant “look what I ask and how he answers”; he likely did not accept that nature needs a Lord.26قَالَ رَبُّكُمۡ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٢٦He said: Your Lord and the Lord of your fathers.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, Moses put forward the clear proof of the Lord who disposes over nature and on whom rational beings depend.27قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَكُمُ ٱلَّذِيٓ أُرۡسِلَ إِلَيۡكُمۡ لَمَجۡنُونࣱ ٢٧(Pharaoh) said: Lo! your messenger who hath been sent unto you is indeed a madman.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, saying “your messenger” was mockery; all who play Pharaoh call divine callers mad like this.28قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغۡرِبِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآۖ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ ٢٨He said: Lord of the East and the West and all that is between them, if ye did but understand.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, He makes the sun rise and set as seen every day and sets the heavenly bodies in motion.29قَالَ لَئِنِ ٱتَّخَذۡتَ إِلَٰهًا غَيۡرِي لَأَجۡعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمَسۡجُونِينَ ٢٩(Pharaoh) said: If thou choosest a god other than me, I assuredly shall place thee among the prisoners.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, this phrasing was meant especially to recall the horror of the prisoners’ condition.30قَالَ أَوَلَوۡ جِئۡتُكَ بِشَيۡءࣲ مُّبِينࣲ ٣٠He said: Even though I show thee something plain.31قَالَ فَأۡتِ بِهِۦٓ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ ٣١(Pharaoh) said: Produce it then, if thou art of the truthful.32فَأَلۡقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ ثُعۡبَانࣱ مُّبِينࣱ ٣٢Then he flung down his staff and it became a serpent manifest.33وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُۥ فَإِذَا هِيَ بَيۡضَآءُ لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ ٣٣And he drew forth his hand and lo! it was white to the beholders.34قَالَ لِلۡمَلَإِ حَوۡلَهُۥٓ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَسَٰحِرٌ عَلِيمࣱ ٣٤(Pharaoh) said unto the chiefs about him: Lo! this is verily a knowing wizard.35يُرِيدُ أَن يُخۡرِجَكُم مِّنۡ أَرۡضِكُم بِسِحۡرِهِۦ فَمَاذَا تَأۡمُرُونَ ٣٥Who would drive you out of your land by his magic. Now what counsel ye.36قَالُوٓاْ أَرۡجِهۡ وَأَخَاهُ وَٱبۡعَثۡ فِي ٱلۡمَدَآئِنِ حَٰشِرِينَ ٣٦They said: Put him off, (him) and his brother, and send into the cities summoners.37يَأۡتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمࣲ ٣٧Who shall bring unto thee every knowing wizard.38فَجُمِعَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَٰتِ يَوۡمࣲ مَّعۡلُومࣲ ٣٨So the wizards were gathered together at a set time on a day appointed.39وَقِيلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلۡ أَنتُم مُّجۡتَمِعُونَ ٣٩And it was said unto the people: Are ye (also) gathering.40لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ ٱلسَّحَرَةَ إِن كَانُواْ هُمُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبِينَ ٤٠(They said): Aye, so that we may follow the wizards if they are the winners.41فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ قَالُواْ لِفِرۡعَوۡنَ أَئِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجۡرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحۡنُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبِينَ ٤١And when the wizards came they said unto Pharaoh: Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners.42قَالَ نَعَمۡ وَإِنَّكُمۡ إِذࣰا لَّمِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِينَ ٤٢He said: Aye, and ye will then surely be of those brought near (to me).43قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰٓ أَلۡقُواْ مَآ أَنتُم مُّلۡقُونَ ٤٣Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw.44فَأَلۡقَوۡاْ حِبَالَهُمۡ وَعِصِيَّهُمۡ وَقَالُواْ بِعِزَّةِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ إِنَّا لَنَحۡنُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبُونَ ٤٤Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh’s might, lo! we verily are the winners.45فَأَلۡقَىٰ مُوسَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلۡقَفُ مَا يَأۡفِكُونَ ٤٥Then Moses threw his staff and lo! it swallowed that which they did falsely show.46فَأُلۡقِيَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سَٰجِدِينَ ٤٦And the wizards were flung prostrate.47قَالُوٓاْ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٤٧Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds.48رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَٰرُونَ ٤٨The Lord of Moses and Aaron.49قَالَ ءَامَنتُمۡ لَهُۥ قَبۡلَ أَنۡ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمۡۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَكُمُ ٱلسِّحۡرَ فَلَسَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُونَۚ لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيۡدِيَكُمۡ وَأَرۡجُلَكُم مِّنۡ خِلَٰفࣲ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ ٤٩(Pharaoh) said: Ye put your faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he doubtless is your chief who taught you magic! But verily ye shall come to know. Verily I will cut off your hands and your feet alternately, and verily I will crucify you every one.50قَالُواْ لَا ضَيۡرَۖ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ ٥٠They said: It is no hurt, for lo! unto our Lord we shall return.51إِنَّا نَطۡمَعُ أَن يَغۡفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَٰيَٰنَآ أَن كُنَّآ أَوَّلَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ٥١Lo! we ardently hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we are the first of the believers.52۞وَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنۡ أَسۡرِ بِعِبَادِيٓ إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ ٥٢And We inspired Moses, saying: Take away My slaves by night, for ye will be pursued.53فَأَرۡسَلَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ فِي ٱلۡمَدَآئِنِ حَٰشِرِينَ ٥٣Then Pharaoh sent into the cities summoners.54إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَشِرۡذِمَةࣱ قَلِيلُونَ ٥٤(Who said): Lo! these indeed are but a little troop.55وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَنَا لَغَآئِظُونَ ٥٥And lo! they are offenders against us.56وَإِنَّا لَجَمِيعٌ حَٰذِرُونَ ٥٦And lo! we are a ready host.57فَأَخۡرَجۡنَٰهُم مِّن جَنَّـٰتࣲ وَعُيُونࣲ ٥٧Thus did We take them away from gardens and watersprings.58وَكُنُوزࣲ وَمَقَامࣲ كَرِيمࣲ ٥٨And treasures and a fair estate.59كَذَٰلِكَۖ وَأَوۡرَثۡنَٰهَا بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَـٰٓءِيلَ ٥٩Thus (were those things taken from them) and We caused the Children of Israel to inherit them.60فَأَتۡبَعُوهُم مُّشۡرِقِينَ ٦٠And they overtook them at sunrise.61فَلَمَّا تَرَـٰٓءَا ٱلۡجَمۡعَانِ قَالَ أَصۡحَٰبُ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّا لَمُدۡرَكُونَ ٦١And when the two hosts saw each other, those with Moses said: Lo! we are indeed caught.62قَالَ كَلَّآۖ إِنَّ مَعِيَ رَبِّي سَيَهۡدِينِ ٦٢He said: Nay, verily! for lo! my Lord is with me. He will guide me.63فَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱضۡرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلۡبَحۡرَۖ فَٱنفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرۡقࣲ كَٱلطَّوۡدِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٦٣Then We inspired Moses, saying: Smite the sea with thy staff. And it parted, and each part was as a mountain vast.64وَأَزۡلَفۡنَا ثَمَّ ٱلۡأٓخَرِينَ ٦٤Then brought We near the others to that place.65وَأَنجَيۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥٓ أَجۡمَعِينَ ٦٥And We saved Moses and those with him, every one.66ثُمَّ أَغۡرَقۡنَا ٱلۡأٓخَرِينَ ٦٦And We drowned the others.67إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةࣰۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ٦٧Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.68وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ٦٨And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.69وَٱتۡلُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَبَأَ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ٦٩Recite unto them the story of Abraham.70إِذۡ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوۡمِهِۦ مَا تَعۡبُدُونَ ٧٠When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye.71قَالُواْ نَعۡبُدُ أَصۡنَامࣰا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَٰكِفِينَ ٧١They said: We worship idols, and are ever devoted unto them.72قَالَ هَلۡ يَسۡمَعُونَكُمۡ إِذۡ تَدۡعُونَ ٧٢He said: Do they hear you when ye cry.73أَوۡ يَنفَعُونَكُمۡ أَوۡ يَضُرُّونَ ٧٣Or do they benefit or harm you.74قَالُواْ بَلۡ وَجَدۡنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا كَذَٰلِكَ يَفۡعَلُونَ ٧٤They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise.75قَالَ أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡبُدُونَ ٧٥He said: See now that which ye worship.76أَنتُمۡ وَءَابَآؤُكُمُ ٱلۡأَقۡدَمُونَ ٧٦Ye and your forefathers.77فَإِنَّهُمۡ عَدُوࣱّ لِّيٓ إِلَّا رَبَّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٧٧Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds.78ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَنِي فَهُوَ يَهۡدِينِ ٧٨Who created me, and He doth guide me.79وَٱلَّذِي هُوَ يُطۡعِمُنِي وَيَسۡقِينِ ٧٩And Who feedeth me and watereth me.80وَإِذَا مَرِضۡتُ فَهُوَ يَشۡفِينِ ٨٠And when I sicken, then He healeth me.81وَٱلَّذِي يُمِيتُنِي ثُمَّ يُحۡيِينِ ٨١And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again).82وَٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡمَعُ أَن يَغۡفِرَ لِي خَطِيٓـَٔتِي يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ ٨٢And Who, I ardently hope, will forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgment.83رَبِّ هَبۡ لِي حُكۡمࣰا وَأَلۡحِقۡنِي بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ ٨٣My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous.84وَٱجۡعَل لِّي لِسَانَ صِدۡقࣲ فِي ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ ٨٤And give unto me a good report in later generations.85وَٱجۡعَلۡنِي مِن وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ٨٥And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight.86وَٱغۡفِرۡ لِأَبِيٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ ٨٦And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err.87وَلَا تُخۡزِنِي يَوۡمَ يُبۡعَثُونَ ٨٧And abase me not on the day when they are raised.88يَوۡمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالࣱ وَلَا بَنُونَ ٨٨The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man).89إِلَّا مَنۡ أَتَى ٱللَّهَ بِقَلۡبࣲ سَلِيمࣲ ٨٩Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart.90وَأُزۡلِفَتِ ٱلۡجَنَّةُ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ ٩٠And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil).91وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلۡجَحِيمُ لِلۡغَاوِينَ ٩١And hell will appear plainly to the erring.92وَقِيلَ لَهُمۡ أَيۡنَ مَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡبُدُونَ ٩٢And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship.93مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ هَلۡ يَنصُرُونَكُمۡ أَوۡ يَنتَصِرُونَ ٩٣Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves.94فَكُبۡكِبُواْ فِيهَا هُمۡ وَٱلۡغَاوُۥنَ ٩٤Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers.95وَجُنُودُ إِبۡلِيسَ أَجۡمَعُونَ ٩٥And the hosts of Iblis, together.96قَالُواْ وَهُمۡ فِيهَا يَخۡتَصِمُونَ ٩٦And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein.97تَٱللَّهِ إِن كُنَّا لَفِي ضَلَٰلࣲ مُّبِينٍ ٩٧By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest.98إِذۡ نُسَوِّيكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٩٨When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds.99وَمَآ أَضَلَّنَآ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُجۡرِمُونَ ٩٩It was but the guilty who misled us.100فَمَا لَنَا مِن شَٰفِعِينَ ١٠٠Now we have no intercessors.101وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمࣲ ١٠١Nor any loving friend.102فَلَوۡ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةࣰ فَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ١٠٢Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers.103إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةࣰۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٠٣Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.104وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٠٤And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.105كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٍ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ١٠٥Noah’s folk denied the messengers (of Allah).106إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُمۡ أَخُوهُمۡ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ١٠٦When their brother Noah said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil).107إِنِّي لَكُمۡ رَسُولٌ أَمِينࣱ ١٠٧Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you.108فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ١٠٨So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.109وَمَآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٠٩And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.110فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ١١٠So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.111۞قَالُوٓاْ أَنُؤۡمِنُ لَكَ وَٱتَّبَعَكَ ٱلۡأَرۡذَلُونَ ١١١They said: Shall we put faith in thee, when the lowest (of the people) follow thee.112قَالَ وَمَا عِلۡمِي بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ ١١٢He said: And what knowledge have I of what they may have been doing (in the past).113إِنۡ حِسَابُهُمۡ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّيۖ لَوۡ تَشۡعُرُونَ ١١٣Lo! their reckoning is my Lord’s concern, if ye but knew.114وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِطَارِدِ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ١١٤And I am not (here) to repulse believers.115إِنۡ أَنَا۠ إِلَّا نَذِيرࣱ مُّبِينࣱ ١١٥I am only a plain warner.116قَالُواْ لَئِن لَّمۡ تَنتَهِ يَٰنُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمَرۡجُومِينَ ١١٦They said: If thou cease not, O Noah, thou wilt surely be among those stoned (to death).117قَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوۡمِي كَذَّبُونِ ١١٧He said: My Lord! Lo! my own folk deny me.118فَٱفۡتَحۡ بَيۡنِي وَبَيۡنَهُمۡ فَتۡحࣰا وَنَجِّنِي وَمَن مَّعِيَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ١١٨Therefor judge Thou between us, a (conclusive) judgment, and save me and those believers who are with me.119فَأَنجَيۡنَٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ فِي ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ ١١٩And We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.120ثُمَّ أَغۡرَقۡنَا بَعۡدُ ٱلۡبَاقِينَ ١٢٠Then afterward We drowned the others.121إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةࣰۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٢١Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.122وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٢٢And lo, thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.123كَذَّبَتۡ عَادٌ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ١٢٣(The tribe of) A’ad denied the messengers (of Allah).124إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُمۡ أَخُوهُمۡ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ١٢٤When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil).125إِنِّي لَكُمۡ رَسُولٌ أَمِينࣱ ١٢٥Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you.126فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ١٢٦So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.127وَمَآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٢٧And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.128أَتَبۡنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ ءَايَةࣰ تَعۡبَثُونَ ١٢٨Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight.129وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَخۡلُدُونَ ١٢٩And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, there was an excess of industry then; society’s true interests, spirituality and morals were ignored, with oppression through material production.130وَإِذَا بَطَشۡتُم بَطَشۡتُمۡ جَبَّارِينَ ١٣٠And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants.131فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ١٣١Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.132وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ١٣٢Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know.133أَمَدَّكُم بِأَنۡعَٰمࣲ وَبَنِينَ ١٣٣Hath aided you with cattle and sons.134وَجَنَّـٰتࣲ وَعُيُونٍ ١٣٤And gardens and watersprings.135إِنِّيٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ عَذَابَ يَوۡمٍ عَظِيمࣲ ١٣٥Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day.136قَالُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيۡنَآ أَوَعَظۡتَ أَمۡ لَمۡ تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلۡوَٰعِظِينَ ١٣٦They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach.137إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا خُلُقُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ١٣٧This is but a fable of the men of old.138وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ ١٣٨And we shall not be doomed.139فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُمۡۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةࣰۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٣٩And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.140وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٤٠And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.141كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ١٤١(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah).142إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُمۡ أَخُوهُمۡ صَٰلِحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ١٤٢When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil).143إِنِّي لَكُمۡ رَسُولٌ أَمِينࣱ ١٤٣Lo! So bring some token if thou art of the truthful.155قَالَ هَٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةࣱ لَّهَا شِرۡبࣱ وَلَكُمۡ شِرۡبُ يَوۡمࣲ مَّعۡلُومࣲ ١٥٥He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, in law “shirb” is the right to take water for drinking and irrigation; sharing by turns is taught here.156وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوٓءࣲ فَيَأۡخُذَكُمۡ عَذَابُ يَوۡمٍ عَظِيمࣲ ١٥٦And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day.157فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصۡبَحُواْ نَٰدِمِينَ ١٥٧But they hamstrung her, and then were penitent.158فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱلۡعَذَابُۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةࣰۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٥٨So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.159وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٥٩And lo! thy Lord! I am a faithful messenger unto you.163فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ١٦٣So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.164وَمَآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٦٤And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.165أَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلذُّكۡرَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٦٥What! Of all creatures do ye come unto the males.166وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمۡ رَبُّكُم مِّنۡ أَزۡوَٰجِكُمۚ بَلۡ أَنتُمۡ قَوۡمٌ عَادُونَ ١٦٦And leave the wives your Lord created for you? Nay, but ye are froward folk.167قَالُواْ لَئِن لَّمۡ تَنتَهِ يَٰلُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمُخۡرَجِينَ ١٦٧They said: If thou cease not, O Lot, thou wilt soon be of the outcast.168قَالَ إِنِّي لِعَمَلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡقَالِينَ ١٦٨He said: I am in truth of those who hate your conduct.169رَبِّ نَجِّنِي وَأَهۡلِي مِمَّا يَعۡمَلُونَ ١٦٩My Lord! Save me and my household from what they do.170فَنَجَّيۡنَٰهُ وَأَهۡلَهُۥٓ أَجۡمَعِينَ ١٧٠So We saved him and his household, every one.171إِلَّا عَجُوزࣰا فِي ٱلۡغَٰبِرِينَ ١٧١Save an old woman among those who stayed behind.172ثُمَّ دَمَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأٓخَرِينَ ١٧٢Then afterward We destroyed the others.173وَأَمۡطَرۡنَا عَلَيۡهِم مَّطَرࣰاۖ فَسَآءَ مَطَرُ ٱلۡمُنذَرِينَ ١٧٣And We rained on them a rain. And dreadful is the rain of those who have been warned.174إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةࣰۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٧٤Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers.175وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٧٥And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful.176كَذَّبَ أَصۡحَٰبُ لۡـَٔيۡكَةِ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ ١٧٦The dwellers in the wood (of Midian) denied the messengers (of Allah).177إِذۡ قَالَ لَهُمۡ شُعَيۡبٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ١٧٧When Shu’eyb said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil).178إِنِّي لَكُمۡ رَسُولٌ أَمِينࣱ ١٧٨Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you.179فَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ ١٧٩So keep your duty to Allah and obey me.180وَمَآ أَسۡـَٔلُكُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۡ أَجۡرٍۖ إِنۡ أَجۡرِيَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ١٨٠And I ask of you no wage for it; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds.181۞أَوۡفُواْ ٱلۡكَيۡلَ وَلَا تَكُونُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡمُخۡسِرِينَ ١٨١Give full measure, and be not of those who give less (than the due).182وَزِنُواْ بِٱلۡقِسۡطَاسِ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمِ ١٨٢And weigh with the true balance.183وَلَا تَبۡخَسُواْ ٱلنَّاسَ أَشۡيَآءَهُمۡ وَلَا تَعۡثَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مُفۡسِدِينَ ١٨٣Wrong not mankind in their goods, and do not evil, making mischief, in the earth.184وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكُمۡ وَٱلۡجِبِلَّةَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ١٨٤And keep your duty unto Him Who created you and the generations of the men of old.185قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُسَحَّرِينَ ١٨٥They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched.186وَمَآ أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُنَا وَإِن نَّظُنُّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ ١٨٦Thou art but a mortal like us, and lo! we deem thee of the liars.187فَأَسۡقِطۡ عَلَيۡنَا كِسَفࣰا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ ١٨٧Then make fragments of the heaven fall upon us, if thou art of the truthful.188قَالَ رَبِّيٓ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ ١٨٨He said: My Lord is Best Aware of what ye do.189فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمۡ عَذَابُ يَوۡمِ ٱلظُّلَّةِۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَذَابَ يَوۡمٍ عَظِيمٍ ١٨٩But they denied him, so there came on them the retribution of the day of gloom. Lo! it was the retribution of an awful day.190إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةࣰۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكۡثَرُهُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ ١٩٠Lo! herein is indeed a portent; yet most of them are not believers.191وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ١٩١And lo! thy Lord! I am innocent of what they do.217وَتَوَكَّلۡ عَلَى ٱلۡعَزِيزِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٢١٧And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful.218ٱلَّذِي يَرَىٰكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ ٢١٨Who seeth thee when thou standest up (to pray).219وَتَقَلُّبَكَ فِي ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ ٢١٩And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship).InsightAccording to Elmalılı, this refers to his movements as imam leading the prayer, or his going among believers to look after them.220إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ ٢٢٠Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Knower.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, He hears all you say, knows your intentions and rewards accordingly; so He is worthy of trust, prayer and worship.221هَلۡ أُنَبِّئُكُمۡ عَلَىٰ مَن تَنَزَّلُ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينُ ٢٢١Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, after showing the Qur’an cannot be devilish suggestion, it now tells on whom devils descend, clearing the Prophet of this.222تَنَزَّلُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمࣲ ٢٢٢They descend on every sinful, false one.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, a devil first looks for someone who fears no sin, invents lies, slanders and deceives.223يُلۡقُونَ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَأَكۡثَرُهُمۡ كَٰذِبُونَ ٢٢٣They listen eagerly, but most of them are liars.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, impostors who fear no burden listen to the devils’ whisperings, and most of what they say is false.224وَٱلشُّعَرَآءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ ٱلۡغَاوُۥنَ ٢٢٤As for poets, the erring follow them.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, the confused who chase not truth but whims, seeking pleasure and amusement, follow them.225أَلَمۡ تَرَ أَنَّهُمۡ فِي كُلِّ وَادࣲ يَهِيمُونَ ٢٢٥Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley.226وَأَنَّهُمۡ يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفۡعَلُونَ ٢٢٦And how they say that which they do not.227إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَٰتِ وَذَكَرُواْ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرࣰا وَٱنتَصَرُواْ مِنۢ بَعۡدِ مَا ظُلِمُواْۗ وَسَيَعۡلَمُ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓاْ أَيَّ مُنقَلَبࣲ يَنقَلِبُونَ ٢٢٧Save those who believe and do good works, and remember Allah much, and vindicate themselves after they have been wronged. Those who do wrong will come to know by what a (great) reverse they will be overturned.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, most of their poetry is remembrance of Allah through His oneness and praise, and reflection on His power in His works.
