Al-Kawthar
إِنَّآ أَعۡطَيۡنَٰكَ ٱلۡكَوۡثَرَ ١
Lo! We have given thee Abundance.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Surely We have given you al-Kawthar.
Insight
Elmalılı explains that the word ‘kawthar’ means ‘much, very much’. When a Bedouin woman was asked what her son had brought back from a journey, she said ‘He came with kawthar’, meaning he came with a great deal. Al-Kawthar is also the name of a special river in Paradise.
Reflect
Start counting the ‘very many’ blessings you have been given. Where does it end?
