The Self-Reproaching Soul
وَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلنَّفۡسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ ٢
Nay, I swear by the accusing soul (that this Scripture is true).
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
And I swear by the self-reproaching soul.
Insight
Elmalılı explains “an-nafs al-lawwamah” as either a soul that blames others much, or one that understands the evil of its sins and blames itself in regret.
