Surah Al-Mu’minun
The Believers · Surah 23 · Meccan · 118 verses
1قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ١Successful indeed are the believers.InsightElmalılı explains “falah” as attaining one’s aim and enduring in good. Here Allah announces the success of believers who combine seven qualities.2ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ فِي صَلَاتِهِمۡ خَٰشِعُونَ ٢Who are humble in their prayers.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, humility is rooted in the heart and shows in the body: in the heart it is awareness of the Lord’s greatness and majesty; in the body it is stillness and not looking around.3وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَنِ ٱللَّغۡوِ مُعۡرِضُونَ ٣And who shun vain conversation.4وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِلزَّكَوٰةِ فَٰعِلُونَ ٤And who are payers of the poor-due.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, the first meaning is giving the zakah of their wealth; some also understood zakah as purification. “Doing zakah” may include purifying the self, the body and wealth.5وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِفُرُوجِهِمۡ حَٰفِظُونَ ٥And who guard their modesty.6إِلَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَزۡوَٰجِهِمۡ أَوۡ مَا مَلَكَتۡ أَيۡمَٰنُهُمۡ فَإِنَّهُمۡ غَيۡرُ مَلُومِينَ ٦Save from their wives or the (slaves) that their right hands possess, for then they are not blameworthy.7فَمَنِ ٱبۡتَغَىٰ وَرَآءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡعَادُونَ ٧But whoso craveth beyond that, such are transgressors.8وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ لِأَمَٰنَٰتِهِمۡ وَعَهۡدِهِمۡ رَٰعُونَ ٨And who are shepherds of their pledge and their covenant.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, a trust is not only property: the rights of Allah and of people, agencies, guardianships and public offices are trusts too. Covenant covers every promise made to Allah, the Prophet and people.9وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَٰتِهِمۡ يُحَافِظُونَ ٩And who pay heed to their prayers.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, they always watch over their obligatory prayers, a divine trust, so as not to miss or neglect them, and keep praying them on time with their conditions and manners.10أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡوَٰرِثُونَ ١٠These are the heirs.InsightAccording to Elmalılı, the believers bearing these qualities are the owners of the promised inheritance and worthy of that right.11ٱلَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ ٱلۡفِرۡدَوۡسَ هُمۡ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ ١١Who will inherit paradise. There they will abide.InsightElmalılı relates from Abu Musa al-Ash‘ari that the Prophet said: “Firdaws is the pavilion of the Most Merciful; it has rivers and trees.” Some said the word means garden in another language.12وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن سُلَٰلَةࣲ مِّن طِينࣲ ١٢Verily We created man from a product of wet earth.13ثُمَّ جَعَلۡنَٰهُ نُطۡفَةࣰ فِي قَرَارࣲ مَّكِينࣲ ١٣Then placed him as a drop (of seed) in a safe lodging.14ثُمَّ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلنُّطۡفَةَ عَلَقَةࣰ فَخَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡعَلَقَةَ مُضۡغَةࣰ فَخَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡمُضۡغَةَ عِظَٰمࣰا فَكَسَوۡنَا ٱلۡعِظَٰمَ لَحۡمࣰا ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَٰهُ خَلۡقًا ءَاخَرَۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحۡسَنُ ٱلۡخَٰلِقِينَ ١٤Then fashioned We the drop a clot, then fashioned We the clot a little lump, then fashioned We the little lump bones, then clothed the bones with flesh, and then produced it as another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators.15ثُمَّ إِنَّكُم بَعۡدَ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَيِّتُونَ ١٥Then lo! after that ye surely die.16ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ تُبۡعَثُونَ ١٦Then lo! on the Day of Resurrection ye are raised (again).17وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعَ طَرَآئِقَ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ ٱلۡخَلۡقِ غَٰفِلِينَ ١٧And We have created above you seven paths, and We are never unmindful of creation.18وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءَۢ بِقَدَرࣲ فَأَسۡكَنَّـٰهُ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابِۭ بِهِۦ لَقَٰدِرُونَ ١٨And we send down from the sky water in measure, and We give it lodging in the earth, and lo! We are Able to withdraw it.19فَأَنشَأۡنَا لَكُم بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتࣲ مِّن نَّخِيلࣲ وَأَعۡنَٰبࣲ لَّكُمۡ فِيهَا فَوَٰكِهُ كَثِيرَةࣱ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ١٩Then We produce for you therewith gardens of date-palms and grapes, wherein is much fruit for you and whereof ye eat.20وَشَجَرَةࣰ تَخۡرُجُ مِن طُورِ سَيۡنَآءَ تَنۢبُتُ بِٱلدُّهۡنِ وَصِبۡغࣲ لِّلۡأٓكِلِينَ ٢٠And a tree that springeth forth from Mount Sinai that groweth oil and relish for the eaters.21وَإِنَّ لَكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِ لَعِبۡرَةࣰۖ نُّسۡقِيكُم مِّمَّا فِي بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمۡ فِيهَا مَنَٰفِعُ كَثِيرَةࣱ وَمِنۡهَا تَأۡكُلُونَ ٢١And lo! in the cattle there is verily a lesson for you. We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies, and many uses have ye in them, and of them do ye eat.22وَعَلَيۡهَا وَعَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ تُحۡمَلُونَ ٢٢And on them and on the ship ye are carried.23وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ فَقَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَٰهٍ غَيۡرُهُۥٓۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ٢٣And We verily sent Noah unto his folk, and he said: O my people! Serve Allah. Ye have no other Allah save Him. Will ye not ward off (evil).24فَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَؤُاْ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِن قَوۡمِهِۦ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيۡكُمۡ وَلَوۡ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰٓئِكَةࣰ مَّا سَمِعۡنَا بِهَٰذَا فِيٓ ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٢٤But the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved, said: This is only a mortal like you who would make himself superior to you. Had Allah willed, He surely could have sent down angels. We heard not of this in the case of our fathers of old.25إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلُۢ بِهِۦ جِنَّةࣱ فَتَرَبَّصُواْ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ حِينࣲ ٢٥He is only a man in whom is a madness, so watch him for a while.26قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ٢٦He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me.27فَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ إِلَيۡهِ أَنِ ٱصۡنَعِ ٱلۡفُلۡكَ بِأَعۡيُنِنَا وَوَحۡيِنَا فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَمۡرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ فَٱسۡلُكۡ فِيهَا مِن كُلࣲّ زَوۡجَيۡنِ ٱثۡنَيۡنِ وَأَهۡلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَيۡهِ ٱلۡقَوۡلُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَلَا تُخَٰطِبۡنِي فِي ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓاْ إِنَّهُم مُّغۡرَقُونَ ٢٧Then We inspired in him, saying: Make the ship under Our eyes and Our inspiration. Then, when Our command cometh and the oven gusheth water, introduce therein of every (kind) two spouses, and thy household save him thereof against whom the Word hath already gone forth. And plead not with Me on behalf of those who have done wrong. Lo! they will be drowned.28فَإِذَا ٱسۡتَوَيۡتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلۡفُلۡكِ فَقُلِ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِي نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ٢٨And when thou art on board the ship, thou and whoso is with thee, then say: Praise be to Allah Who hath saved us from the wrongdoing folk.29وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلۡنِي مُنزَلࣰا مُّبَارَكࣰا وَأَنتَ خَيۡرُ ٱلۡمُنزِلِينَ ٢٩And say: My Lord! Cause me to land at a blessed landing-place, for Thou art Best of all who bring to land.30إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَٰتࣲ وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبۡتَلِينَ ٣٠Lo! herein verily are portents, for lo! We are ever putting (mankind) to the test.31ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قَرۡنًا ءَاخَرِينَ ٣١Then, after them, We brought forth another generation.32فَأَرۡسَلۡنَا فِيهِمۡ رَسُولࣰا مِّنۡهُمۡ أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَٰهٍ غَيۡرُهُۥٓۚ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ٣٢And we sent among them a messenger of their own, saying: Serve Allah, Ye have no other Allah save Him. Will ye not ward off (evil).33وَقَالَ ٱلۡمَلَأُ مِن قَوۡمِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِلِقَآءِ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ وَأَتۡرَفۡنَٰهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنۡيَا مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرࣱ مِّثۡلُكُمۡ يَأۡكُلُ مِمَّا تَأۡكُلُونَ مِنۡهُ وَيَشۡرَبُ مِمَّا تَشۡرَبُونَ ٣٣And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink.34وَلَئِنۡ أَطَعۡتُم بَشَرࣰا مِّثۡلَكُمۡ إِنَّكُمۡ إِذࣰا لَّخَٰسِرُونَ ٣٤If ye were to obey a mortal like yourselves, then, lo! ye surely would be losers.35أَيَعِدُكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ إِذَا مِتُّمۡ وَكُنتُمۡ تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَٰمًا أَنَّكُم مُّخۡرَجُونَ ٣٥Doth he promise you that you, when ye are dead and have become dust and bones, will (again) be brought forth.36۞هَيۡهَاتَ هَيۡهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ ٣٦Begone, begone, with that which ye are promised.37إِنۡ هِيَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنۡيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحۡيَا وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَبۡعُوثِينَ ٣٧There is naught but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we shall not be raised (again).38إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفۡتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبࣰا وَمَا نَحۡنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ ٣٨He is only a man who hath invented a lie about Allah. We are not going to put faith in him.39قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرۡنِي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ ٣٩He said: My Lord! Help me because they deny me.40قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلࣲ لَّيُصۡبِحُنَّ نَٰدِمِينَ ٤٠He said: In a little while they surely will become repentant.41فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّيۡحَةُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ غُثَآءࣰۚ فَبُعۡدࣰا لِّلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ٤١So the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk.42ثُمَّ أَنشَأۡنَا مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡ قُرُونًا ءَاخَرِينَ ٤٢Then after them We brought forth other generations.43مَا تَسۡبِقُ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسۡتَـٔۡخِرُونَ ٤٣No nation can outstrip its term, nor yet postpone it.44ثُمَّ أَرۡسَلۡنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتۡرَاۖ كُلَّ مَا جَآءَ أُمَّةࣰ رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُۖ فَأَتۡبَعۡنَا بَعۡضَهُم بَعۡضࣰا وَجَعَلۡنَٰهُمۡ أَحَادِيثَۚ فَبُعۡدࣰا لِّقَوۡمࣲ لَّا يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٤٤Then We sent our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came unto a nation they denied him; so We caused them to follow one another (to disaster) and We made them bywords. A far removal for folk who believe not.45ثُمَّ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَٰرُونَ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا وَسُلۡطَٰنࣲ مُّبِينٍ ٤٥Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our tokens and a clear warrant.46إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَمَلَإِيْهِۦ فَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ وَكَانُواْ قَوۡمًا عَالِينَ ٤٦Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk.47فَقَالُوٓاْ أَنُؤۡمِنُ لِبَشَرَيۡنِ مِثۡلِنَا وَقَوۡمُهُمَا لَنَا عَٰبِدُونَ ٤٧And they said: Shall we put faith in two mortals like ourselves, and whose folk are servile unto us.48فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُواْ مِنَ ٱلۡمُهۡلَكِينَ ٤٨So they denied them, and became of those who were destroyed.49وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا مُوسَى ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَهۡتَدُونَ ٤٩And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright.50وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱبۡنَ مَرۡيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥٓ ءَايَةࣰ وَءَاوَيۡنَٰهُمَآ إِلَىٰ رَبۡوَةࣲ ذَاتِ قَرَارࣲ وَمَعِينࣲ ٥٠And We made the son of Mary and his mother a portent, and We gave them refuge on a height, a place of flocks and watersprings.51يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلرُّسُلُ كُلُواْ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَٰتِ وَٱعۡمَلُواْ صَٰلِحًاۖ إِنِّي بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ عَلِيمࣱ ٥١O ye messengers! Eat of the good things, and do right. Lo! I am Aware of what ye do.52وَإِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦٓ أُمَّتُكُمۡ أُمَّةࣰ وَٰحِدَةࣰ وَأَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمۡ فَٱتَّقُونِ ٥٢And lo! this your religion is one religion and I am your Lord, so keep your duty unto Me.53فَتَقَطَّعُوٓاْ أَمۡرَهُم بَيۡنَهُمۡ زُبُرࣰاۖ كُلُّ حِزۡبِۭ بِمَا لَدَيۡهِمۡ فَرِحُونَ ٥٣But they (mankind) have broken their religion among them into sects, each group rejoicing in its tenets.54فَذَرۡهُمۡ فِي غَمۡرَتِهِمۡ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ ٥٤So leave them in their error till a time.55أَيَحۡسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِۦ مِن مَّالࣲ وَبَنِينَ ٥٥Think they that in the wealth and sons wherewith We provide them.56نُسَارِعُ لَهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتِۚ بَل لَّا يَشۡعُرُونَ ٥٦We hasten unto them with good things? Nay, but they perceive not.57إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ هُم مِّنۡ خَشۡيَةِ رَبِّهِم مُّشۡفِقُونَ ٥٧Lo! those who go in awe for fear of their Lord.58وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِـَٔايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ يُؤۡمِنُونَ ٥٨And those who believe in the revelations of their Lord.59وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ لَا يُشۡرِكُونَ ٥٩And those who ascribe not partners unto their Lord.60وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡتُونَ مَآ ءَاتَواْ وَّقُلُوبُهُمۡ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمۡ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمۡ رَٰجِعُونَ ٦٠And those who give that which they give with hearts afraid because they are about to return unto their Lord.61أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِي ٱلۡخَيۡرَٰتِ وَهُمۡ لَهَا سَٰبِقُونَ ٦١These race for the good things, and they shall win them in the race.62وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا وُسۡعَهَاۚ وَلَدَيۡنَا كِتَٰبࣱ يَنطِقُ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَهُمۡ لَا يُظۡلَمُونَ ٦٢And we task not any soul beyond its scope, and with Us is a Record which speaketh the truth, and they will not be wronged.63بَلۡ قُلُوبُهُمۡ فِي غَمۡرَةࣲ مِّنۡ هَٰذَا وَلَهُمۡ أَعۡمَٰلࣱ مِّن دُونِ ذَٰلِكَ هُمۡ لَهَا عَٰمِلُونَ ٦٣Nay, but their hearts are in ignorance of this (Qur’an), and they have other works, besides, which they are doing.64حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَخَذۡنَا مُتۡرَفِيهِم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمۡ يَجۡـَٔرُونَ ٦٤Till when We grasp their luxurious ones with the punishment, behold! they supplicate.65لَا تَجۡـَٔرُواْ ٱلۡيَوۡمَۖ إِنَّكُم مِّنَّا لَا تُنصَرُونَ ٦٥Supplicate not this day! Assuredly ye will not be helped by Us.66قَدۡ كَانَتۡ ءَايَٰتِي تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡكُمۡ فَكُنتُمۡ عَلَىٰٓ أَعۡقَٰبِكُمۡ تَنكِصُونَ ٦٦My revelations were recited unto you, but ye used to turn back on your heels.67مُسۡتَكۡبِرِينَ بِهِۦ سَٰمِرࣰا تَهۡجُرُونَ ٦٧In scorn thereof. Nightly did ye rave together.68أَفَلَمۡ يَدَّبَّرُواْ ٱلۡقَوۡلَ أَمۡ جَآءَهُم مَّا لَمۡ يَأۡتِ ءَابَآءَهُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٦٨Have they not pondered the Word, or hath that come unto them which came not unto their fathers of old.69أَمۡ لَمۡ يَعۡرِفُواْ رَسُولَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ ٦٩Or know they not their messenger, and so reject him.70أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ بِهِۦ جِنَّةُۢۚ بَلۡ جَآءَهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَأَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لِلۡحَقِّ كَٰرِهُونَ ٧٠Or say they: There is a madness in him? Nay, but he bringeth them the Truth; and most of them are haters of the Truth.71وَلَوِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلۡحَقُّ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡ لَفَسَدَتِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّۚ بَلۡ أَتَيۡنَٰهُم بِذِكۡرِهِمۡ فَهُمۡ عَن ذِكۡرِهِم مُّعۡرِضُونَ ٧١And if the Truth had followed their desires, verily the heavens and the earth and whosoever is therein had been corrupted. Nay, We have brought them their Reminder, but from their Reminder they now turn away.72أَمۡ تَسۡـَٔلُهُمۡ خَرۡجࣰا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَيۡرࣱۖ وَهُوَ خَيۡرُ ٱلرَّـٰزِقِينَ ٧٢Or dost thou ask of them (O Muhammad) any tribute? But the bounty of thy Lord is better, for He is Best of all who make provision.73وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدۡعُوهُمۡ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطࣲ مُّسۡتَقِيمࣲ ٧٣And lo! thou summonest them indeed unto a straight path.74وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ عَنِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ لَنَٰكِبُونَ ٧٤And lo! those who believe not in the Hereafter are indeed astray from the path.75۞وَلَوۡ رَحِمۡنَٰهُمۡ وَكَشَفۡنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرࣲّ لَّلَجُّواْ فِي طُغۡيَٰنِهِمۡ يَعۡمَهُونَ ٧٥Though We had mercy on them and relieved them of the harm afflicting them, they still would wander blindly on in their contumacy.76وَلَقَدۡ أَخَذۡنَٰهُم بِٱلۡعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسۡتَكَانُواْ لِرَبِّهِمۡ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ ٧٦Already have We grasped them with punishment, but they humble not themselves unto their Lord, nor do they pray.77حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَتَحۡنَا عَلَيۡهِم بَابࣰا ذَا عَذَابࣲ شَدِيدٍ إِذَا هُمۡ فِيهِ مُبۡلِسُونَ ٧٧Until, when We open for them the gate of extreme punishment, behold! they are aghast thereat.78وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرَ وَٱلۡأَفۡـِٔدَةَۚ قَلِيلࣰا مَّا تَشۡكُرُونَ ٧٨He it is Who hath created for you ears and eyes and hearts. Small thanks give ye.79وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي ذَرَأَكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَإِلَيۡهِ تُحۡشَرُونَ ٧٩And He it is Who hath sown you broadcast in the earth, and unto Him ye will be gathered.80وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِي يُحۡيِۦ وَيُمِيتُ وَلَهُ ٱخۡتِلَٰفُ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ ٨٠And He it is Who giveth life and causeth death, and His is the difference of night and day. Have ye then no sense.81بَلۡ قَالُواْ مِثۡلَ مَا قَالَ ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ٨١Nay, but they say the like of that which said the men of old.82قَالُوٓاْ أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابࣰا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ٨٢They say: When we are dead and have become (mere) dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again.83لَقَدۡ وُعِدۡنَا نَحۡنُ وَءَابَآؤُنَا هَٰذَا مِن قَبۡلُ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٨٣We were already promised this, we and our forefathers. Lo! this is naught but fables of the men of old.84قُل لِّمَنِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَن فِيهَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ٨٤Say: Unto Whom (belongeth) the earth and whosoever is therein, if ye have knowledge.85سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ٨٥They will say: Unto Allah. Say: Will ye not then remember.86قُلۡ مَن رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ ٱلسَّبۡعِ وَرَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٨٦Say: Who is Lord of the seven heavens, and Lord of the Tremendous Throne.87سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ ٨٧They will say: Unto Allah (all that belongeth). Say: Will ye not then keep duty (unto Him).88قُلۡ مَنۢ بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَيۡءࣲ وَهُوَ يُجِيرُ وَلَا يُجَارُ عَلَيۡهِ إِن كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ٨٨Say: In Whose hand is the dominion over all things and He protecteth, while against Him there is no protection, if ye have knowledge.89سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِۚ قُلۡ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسۡحَرُونَ ٨٩They will say: Unto Allah (all that belongeth). Say: How then are ye bewitched.90بَلۡ أَتَيۡنَٰهُم بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمۡ لَكَٰذِبُونَ ٩٠Nay, but We have brought them the Truth, and lo! they are liars.91مَا ٱتَّخَذَ ٱللَّهُ مِن وَلَدࣲ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُۥ مِنۡ إِلَٰهٍۚ إِذࣰا لَّذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَٰهِۭ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعۡضُهُمۡ عَلَىٰ بَعۡضࣲۚ سُبۡحَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ ٩١Allah hath not chosen any son, nor is there any god along with Him; else would each god have assuredly championed that which he created, and some of them would assuredly have overcome others. Glorified be Allah above all that they allege.92عَٰلِمِ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَٱلشَّهَٰدَةِ فَتَعَٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشۡرِكُونَ ٩٢Knower of the Invisible and the Visible! and Exalted be He over all that they ascribe as partners (unto Him).93قُل رَّبِّ إِمَّا تُرِيَنِّي مَا يُوعَدُونَ ٩٣Say: My Lord! If Thou shouldst show me that which they are promised.94رَبِّ فَلَا تَجۡعَلۡنِي فِي ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ٩٤My Lord! then set me not among the wrongdoing folk.95وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّرِيَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمۡ لَقَٰدِرُونَ ٩٥And verily We are Able to show thee that which We have promised them.96ٱدۡفَعۡ بِٱلَّتِي هِيَ أَحۡسَنُ ٱلسَّيِّئَةَۚ نَحۡنُ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَا يَصِفُونَ ٩٦Repel evil with that which is better. We are Best Aware of that which they allege.97وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنۡ هَمَزَٰتِ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ ٩٧And say: My Lord! I seek refuge in Thee from suggestions of the evil ones.98وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن يَحۡضُرُونِ ٩٨And I seek refuge in Thee, my Lord, lest they be present with me.99حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَ أَحَدَهُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ٱرۡجِعُونِ ٩٩Until, when death cometh unto one of them, he saith: My Lord! Send me back.100لَعَلِّيٓ أَعۡمَلُ صَٰلِحࣰا فِيمَا تَرَكۡتُۚ كَلَّآۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَآئِلُهَاۖ وَمِن وَرَآئِهِم بَرۡزَخٌ إِلَىٰ يَوۡمِ يُبۡعَثُونَ ١٠٠That I may do right in that which I have left behind! But nay! It is but a word that he speaketh; and behind them is a barrier until the day when they are raised.101فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ فَلَآ أَنسَابَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ وَلَا يَتَسَآءَلُونَ ١٠١And when the trumpet is blown there will be no kinship among them that day, nor will they ask of one another.102فَمَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ ١٠٢Then those whose scales are heavy, they are the successful.103وَمَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓاْ أَنفُسَهُمۡ فِي جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدُونَ ١٠٣And those whose scales are light are those who lose their souls, in hell abiding.104تَلۡفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَهُمۡ فِيهَا كَٰلِحُونَ ١٠٤The fire burneth their faces, and they are glum therein.105أَلَمۡ تَكُنۡ ءَايَٰتِي تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡكُمۡ فَكُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ ١٠٥(It will be said): Were not My revelations recited unto you, and then ye used to deny them.106قَالُواْ رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتۡ عَلَيۡنَا شِقۡوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوۡمࣰا ضَآلِّينَ ١٠٦They will say: Our Lord! Our evil fortune conquered us, and we were erring folk.107رَبَّنَآ أَخۡرِجۡنَا مِنۡهَا فَإِنۡ عُدۡنَا فَإِنَّا ظَٰلِمُونَ ١٠٧Our Lord! Oh, bring us forth from hence! If we return (to evil) then indeed we shall be wrong-doers.108قَالَ ٱخۡسَـُٔواْ فِيهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ ١٠٨He saith: Begone therein, and speak not unto Me.109إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَرِيقࣱ مِّنۡ عِبَادِي يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغۡفِرۡ لَنَا وَٱرۡحَمۡنَا وَأَنتَ خَيۡرُ ٱلرَّـٰحِمِينَ ١٠٩Lo! there was a party of My slaves who said: Our Lord! We believe, therefor forgive us and have mercy on us for Thou art Best of all who show mercy.110فَٱتَّخَذۡتُمُوهُمۡ سِخۡرِيًّا حَتَّىٰٓ أَنسَوۡكُمۡ ذِكۡرِي وَكُنتُم مِّنۡهُمۡ تَضۡحَكُونَ ١١٠But ye chose them for a laughing-stock until they caused you to forget remembrance of Me, while ye laughed at them.111إِنِّي جَزَيۡتُهُمُ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوٓاْ أَنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡفَآئِزُونَ ١١١Lo! I have rewarded them this day forasmuch as they were steadfast in that they, even they, are the triumphant.112قَٰلَ كَمۡ لَبِثۡتُمۡ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ عَدَدَ سِنِينَ ١١٢He will say: How long tarried ye in the earth, counting by years.113قَالُواْ لَبِثۡنَا يَوۡمًا أَوۡ بَعۡضَ يَوۡمࣲ فَسۡـَٔلِ ٱلۡعَآدِّينَ ١١٣They will say: We tarried by a day or part of a day. Ask of those who keep count.114قَٰلَ إِن لَّبِثۡتُمۡ إِلَّا قَلِيلࣰاۖ لَّوۡ أَنَّكُمۡ كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ ١١٤He will say: Ye tarried but a little if ye only knew.115أَفَحَسِبۡتُمۡ أَنَّمَا خَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ عَبَثࣰا وَأَنَّكُمۡ إِلَيۡنَا لَا تُرۡجَعُونَ ١١٥Deemed ye then that We had created you for naught, and that ye would not be returned unto Us.116فَتَعَٰلَى ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡمَلِكُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَرۡشِ ٱلۡكَرِيمِ ١١٦Now Allah be Exalted, the True King! There is no Allah save Him, the Lord of the Throne of Grace.117وَمَن يَدۡعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ لَا بُرۡهَٰنَ لَهُۥ بِهِۦ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦٓۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفۡلِحُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ ١١٧He who crieth unto any other god along with Allah hath no proof thereof. His reckoning is only with his Lord. Lo! disbelievers will not be successful.118وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ وَٱرۡحَمۡ وَأَنتَ خَيۡرُ ٱلرَّـٰحِمِينَ ١١٨And (O Muhammad) say: My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for Thou art Best of all who show mercy.
