Collars
Lo! We have put on their necks carcans reaching unto the chins, so that they are made stiff-necked.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
We have put collars on their necks up to their chins, so their heads are forced up and their gaze is locked.
Insight
Elmalılı explains “aghlal” as bonds that bind the neck and the hands together. It is a striking picture of the captivity a person falls into through his own stubbornness.
Reflect
Is there a “bond” keeping you from looking at the truth?
