The Moon’s Stations
And for the moon We have appointed mansions till she return like an old shrivelled palm-leaf.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
And the moon, We have set stations for it, until it returns like an old, dried date stalk.
Insight
Elmalılı explains that the moon does not run steadily like the sun but comes to a new station each day, looking different in each. The Arabs gave each station its own name.
Reflect
Tonight, look at the moon’s shape.
