Will They Not Give Thanks?
لِيَأۡكُلُواْ مِن ثَمَرِهِۦ وَمَا عَمِلَتۡهُ أَيۡدِيهِمۡۚ أَفَلَا يَشۡكُرُونَ ٣٥
That they may eat of the fruit thereof, and their hands made it not. Will they not, then, give thanks.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
So that they may eat of its fruit and of what their hands made. Will they not give thanks?
Insight
Elmalılı says the verse can be read two ways: “and of what their hands made”, or “their hands did not make it”. In the second sense, a person may tend the vineyard and water it, but he does not create the fruit.
