Mercy Even for Enemies
بِمَا غَفَرَ لِي رَبِّي وَجَعَلَنِي مِنَ ٱلۡمُكۡرَمِينَ ٢٧
With what (munificence) my Lord hath pardoned me and made me of the honoured ones.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
“…how my Lord has forgiven me and made me one of the honoured!”
Insight
Elmalılı sees a great heart in this wish: the man held no grudge against the people who killed him; he wished they knew his happiness and would repent and believe. This is the spirit of the saints who show mercy even to their enemies.
Reflect
Today, pray for good for someone who hurt you.
