I Did Not Make Him Transgress
His comrade saith: Our Lord! I did not cause him to rebel, but he was (himself) far gone in error.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
His companion will say: “Our Lord, I did not make him transgress, but he was himself in extreme error.”
Insight
According to Elmalılı, this companion is the devil who beset the disbeliever in the world and is driven with him in the Hereafter, answering his complaint “This one led me astray.”
