Do Not Leave Your Gods

And they have said: Forsake not your gods. Forsake not Wadd, nor Suwa’, nor Yaghuth and Ya’uq and Nasr.

Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall

Meaning

“Do not leave your gods; do not leave Wadd, Suwa‘, Yaghuth, Ya‘uq or Nasr.”

Insight

According to Elmalılı, these were the names of the idols they held greatest; differences of rank among them are hinted at by repeating or omitting the word “la”.
