Ornaments of Gold

And ornaments of gold. Yet all that would have been but a provision of the life of the world. And the Hereafter with your Lord would have been for those who keep from evil.

Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall

Meaning

And ornaments of gold. All that is but the enjoyment of worldly life; the Hereafter with your Lord is for the mindful.

Insight

Elmalılı explains “zukhruf” as gilded engravings and adornments: in truth they are nothing, only the deceptive goods of worldly life.

Reflect

Before being drawn to an adornment, reflect on its passing nature.
