Misfortune of Time
Or say they: (he is) a poet, (one) for whom we may expect the accident of time.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Or do they say: “A poet, for whom we await a misfortune of time”?
Insight
Elmalılı explains “manun” as time and death that cut lives short; they were waiting for the Prophet to die.
Reflect
Don’t wait for another’s misfortune; prepare for your own end.
