Wickedness and Righteousness
فَأَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقۡوَىٰهَا ٨
And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Then inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness.
Insight
Elmalılı says “ilham” originally means making something be swallowed at once, and came to mean placing a meaning into the heart. Man has been given a disposition to both evil and guarding against it, and the ability to tell them apart.
