The Great Sign
فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلۡأٓيَةَ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ ٢٠
And he showed him the tremendous token.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
And he showed him the greatest sign.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, this is the staff coming alive as a serpent; a proof of the dead being raised and of the command “Be!”. One who would not heed words was shown a sign in deed.
