Had Not a Favour Reached Him
لَّوۡلَآ أَن تَدَٰرَكَهُۥ نِعۡمَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ لَنُبِذَ بِٱلۡعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ مَذۡمُومࣱ ٤٩
Had it not been that favour from his Lord had reached him he surely had been cast into the wilderness while he was reprobate.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Had not a favour from his Lord reached him, he would have been cast onto the open shore while blamed.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, this favour was inspiring Jonah to repent, regret and glorify Allah, and answering his prayer.
