Such Is the Punishment
كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡعَذَابُۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ أَكۡبَرُۚ لَوۡ كَانُواْ يَعۡلَمُونَ ٣٣
Such was the punishment. And verily the punishment of the Hereafter is greater if they did but know.

Meaning
Such is the punishment; and the punishment of the Hereafter is greater.

According to Elmalılı, worldly punishment awakens those able to understand, sets them right and leads them to avoid greater danger and attain greater good.
