The Term Never Shifts
مَّا تَسۡبِقُ مِنۡ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسۡتَـٔۡخِرُونَ ٥
No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
No nation can precede its term, nor will they remain behind.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, they will not perish before the time set in that decree, nor stay beyond it; so too the disbelievers of Mecca.
