Orders Do Not Excuse
فَكَانَ عَٰقِبَتَهُمَآ أَنَّهُمَا فِي ٱلنَّارِ خَٰلِدَيۡنِ فِيهَاۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَـٰٓؤُاْ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ ١٧
And the consequence for both will be that they are in the Fire, therein abiding. Such is the reward of evil-doers.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
So the end of both is that they are in the Fire.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, one urged as if commanding, the other carried it out; so obeying one who orders disobedience to Allah does not free the doer from responsibility.
Reflect
Don’t join in a wrong saying “I was told to”.
