The Example of Satan
(And the hypocrites are) on the likeness of the devil when he telleth man to disbelieve, then, when he disbelieveth saith: Lo! I am quit of thee. Lo! I fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Like Satan, when he says to man “Disbelieve”, and when he disbelieves, says “I am free of you.”
Insight
According to Elmalılı, Satan urges man to disbelief as if commanding him; once he disbelieves, Satan withdraws: “I have no part in what you got into, I share none of your responsibility.”
Reflect
Don’t follow those who urge you to evil and then abandon you.
