The People of ‘Ad

أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ ۝٦

Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A’ad.

Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall

Meaning

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with ‘Ad?

Insight

Elmalılı notes that historians, as Ibn Khaldun mentions, divided the Arabs into four, and the “vanished Arabs” were peoples like ‘Ad who perished entirely.

Reflect

Consider that even what seems powerful can vanish.
