The Dawn · Meccan · Juz 30 · Page 594
If Only
يَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَيَاتِي ٢٤
He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
He will say: “If only I had sent ahead for my life!”
Insight
Elmalılı explains “sending ahead” as doing good deeds beforehand for the future. “My life” may be the life of the Hereafter or this world: “If only I had done something while alive.”
Reflect
Today, do a good deed to “send ahead” for your Hereafter.
