The Laden Ship
وَءَايَةࣱ لَّهُمۡ أَنَّا حَمَلۡنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡفُلۡكِ ٱلۡمَشۡحُونِ ٤١
And a token unto them is that We bear their offspring in the laden ship.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
A sign for them is that We carried their offspring in the laden ship.
Insight
Elmalılı says the “laden ship” first brings Noah’s ark to mind. But for him there is also a beautiful image here: the mother’s womb is like a ship of rescue carrying the next generation.
