The Third Messenger
When We sent unto them twain, and they denied them both, so We reinforced them with a third, and they said: Lo! we have been sent unto you.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
We sent them two, but they denied both, so We strengthened them with a third.
Insight
Elmalılı relates two views: according to Ibn Abbas they were prophets sent by Allah directly; according to Qatada they were disciples sent by Jesus. Either way, the true sender is Allah.
