The Story of a Town

Coin for them a similitude: The people of the city when those sent (from Allah) came unto them.

Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall

Meaning

Give them the example of the people of the town, when the messengers came to it.

Insight

Elmalılı sees this story as an example of the great change promised to the Prophet: just as pagan Rome faded before Christianity, so powers would fall before Islam. That is why it fits to call this story “the heart of Ya-Sin”.

Reflect

Recall a good thing that came after a hard time.
