If Only to a Great Man

And they say: If only this Qur’an had been revealed to some great man of the two towns.

Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall

Meaning

They said: “Why was this Qur’an not sent down upon a great man from the two cities?”

Insight

According to Elmalılı, the two cities are Mecca and Ta’if; they sensed the Qur’an’s beauty but could not accept it coming to the Prophet.

Reflect

Don’t measure people’s worth by wealth and status.
