A Heavy Load
ٱلَّذِيٓ أَنقَضَ ظَهۡرَكَ ٣
Which weighed down thy back.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
The burden that weighed down your back.
Insight
Elmalılı says the word ‘anqada’ in the verse describes the creaking sound a heavy load makes on the back, much as we say ‘it broke my back’. It is a vivid picture of the hardships the Prophet had carried before.
Reflect
Remember a burden that once crushed you but has grown lighter today.
