Baal
أَتَدۡعُونَ بَعۡلࣰا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحۡسَنَ ٱلۡخَٰلِقِينَ ١٢٥
Will ye cry unto Baal and forsake the Best of creators.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
“Do you call upon Baal and leave the best of creators?”
Insight
Elmalılı explains “Ba‘l” as an idol said to be twenty cubits tall, of gold, with four faces; the town of Baalbek near Damascus bears this name.
