Love and Mercy
And of His signs is this: He created for you helpmeets from yourselves that ye might find rest in them, and He ordained between you love and mercy. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who reflect.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Among Allah’s signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, so that you may find peace with them, and He placed love and mercy between you.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, the love (mawaddah) and mercy between people are not like a passing instinct in animals. This feeling is a lasting bond not only between spouses but among all people. For him, not only individuals but societies should reflect on this verse.
Reflect
Today, do one small thing that shows your love to someone you love.
