The Romans Were Defeated
غُلِبَتِ ٱلرُّومُ ٢
The Romans have been defeated.

Meaning
The Byzantines have been defeated.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, at the time of the Prophet’s mission, Byzantium and Persia were the world’s two greatest states; Persia had defeated the Byzantines.
