Only Names
They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
They are not but names you have named, you and your forefathers.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, the idols have none of the meanings attributed to them, such as divinity, might, relation to Allah or intercession; they are only empty names.
Reflect
Look at the substance of the things you value.
