Reflection
إِنَّ فِي خَلۡقِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱخۡتِلَٰفِ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ لَأٓيَٰتࣲ لِّأُوْلِي ٱلۡأَلۡبَٰبِ ١٩٠
Lo! In the creation of the heavens and the earth and (in) the difference of night and day are tokens (of His Sovereignty) for men of understanding.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are clear signs for people of understanding.
Insight
Elmalılı sees this verse as the foundation of true knowledge: reflecting with a clear mind on space (the heavens and the earth), creation, and time (night and day). For him these signs are not for everyone, but for those of ‘pure understanding’.
