When We Are Dust and Bones
And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
And they used to say: “When we die and become dust and bones, will we be raised?”
Insight
According to Elmalılı, this shows the subtle point of calling idolatry “breaking an oath”: they were liars who did not honour oaths or keep their word.
