Abu Lahab
تَبَّتۡ يَدَآ أَبِي لَهَبࣲ وَتَبَّ ١
The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
May the hands of Abu Lahab perish, and he has perished.
Insight
Elmalılı says this verb can carry both a statement and a curse-like style, as the Arabs said “may he be ruined”: it tells that he deserved loss and destruction.
Reflect
Think about how a life spent in enmity to Allah’s religion ends.
