This Is a Mercy from My Lord
قَالَ هَٰذَا رَحۡمَةࣱ مِّن رَّبِّيۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعۡدُ رَبِّي جَعَلَهُۥ دَكَّآءَۖ وَكَانَ وَعۡدُ رَبِّي حَقࣰّا ٩٨
He said: This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord cometh to pass, He will lay it low, for the promise of my Lord is true.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
“This is a mercy from my Lord. When my Lord’s promise comes, He will level it.”
Insight
According to Elmalılı, Dhul-Qarnayn credited the success not to himself but to Allah’s grace; it too has a term, and the Hour is certain.
