You Would Think Them Awake
And thou wouldst have deemed them waking though they were asleep, and We caused them to turn over to the right and the left, and their dog stretching out his paws on the threshold. If thou hadst observed them closely thou hadst assuredly turned away from them in flight, and hadst been filled with awe of them.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
You would think them awake, though they were asleep. Had you seen them, you would have fled.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, their eyes were open though they slept; their state was so awe-inspiring that no one could approach them.
Reflect
Consider that Allah’s protection sometimes comes as awe.
