The Jinn · Meccan · Juz 29 · Page 572
We Used to Sit to Listen
And we used to sit on places (high) therein to listen. But he who listeneth now findeth a flame in wait for him.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
“We used to sit there in positions to listen, but whoever listens now finds a flame lying in wait.”
Insight
According to Elmalılı, the jinn would steal secret news from the heavens and use it to mislead people; when revelation began, this path was closed.
Reflect
Don’t listen to fortune-tellers and soothsayers.
