By Allah’s Permission
Whatsoever palm-trees ye cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by Allah’s leave, in order that He might confound the evil-livers.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Whatever palm trees you cut down or left standing was by Allah’s permission.
Insight
Elmalılı explains “linah” as the palm tree, according to many; according to Ibn ‘Abbas, it is the kinds of palm other than ‘ajwah.
