The Striking Calamity
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ وَعَادُۢ بِٱلۡقَارِعَةِ ٤
(The tribes of) Thamud and A’ad disbelieved in the judgment to come.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Thamud and ‘Ad denied the Striking Calamity.
Insight
Elmalılı explains “al-qari‘ah” as an event that strikes people’s heads and bursts in their minds; as Surat al-Qari‘ah explains, it is one of the names of the Hour.
