The Trust
Lo! We offered the trust unto the heavens and the earth and the hills, but they shrank from bearing it and were afraid of it. And man assumed it. Lo! he hath proved a tyrant and a fool.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
We offered the Trust to the heavens, earth and mountains; they declined to bear it; but man undertook it.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, “amana” originally means being trustworthy; then it came to mean what is entrusted, others’ rights relied upon.
Reflect
Reflect on the weight of the trust you bear.
