They Disliked It
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَرِهُواْ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأَحۡبَطَ أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ ٩
That is because they are averse to that which Allah hath revealed, therefor maketh He their actions fruitless.

Meaning
That is because they disliked what Allah revealed.

According to Elmalılı, the cause of this ruin is their disliking what Allah revealed and not spending their will in service of His religion.
