Keep Good Company
But if they strive with thee to make thee ascribe unto Me as partner that of which thou hast no knowledge, then obey them not. Consort with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him who repenteth unto Me. Then unto Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what ye used to do.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
If they strive to make you associate with Me, do not obey them, but keep them company in this world with kindness.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, though gratitude to parents is enjoined, they are not obeyed in associating partners with Allah; even so, one must treat them kindly in this world.
Reflect
Be gentle with your parents even when you disagree.
