Your Hatred of Yourselves
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُنَادَوۡنَ لَمَقۡتُ ٱللَّهِ أَكۡبَرُ مِن مَّقۡتِكُمۡ أَنفُسَكُمۡ إِذۡ تُدۡعَوۡنَ إِلَى ٱلۡإِيمَٰنِ فَتَكۡفُرُونَ ١٠
Lo! (on that day) those who disbelieve are informed by proclamation: Verily Allah’s abhorrence is more terrible than your abhorrence one of another, when ye were called unto the faith but did refuse.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
“The hatred of Allah was greater than your hatred of yourselves.”
Insight
According to Elmalılı, this will be called out to the disbelievers who loathe themselves after entering Hell, for they disbelieved when called to faith.
