A Human Guide Us?

That was because their messengers (from Allah) kept coming unto them with clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty), but they said: Shall mere mortals guide us? So they disbelieved and turned away, and Allah was independent (of them). Allah is Absolute, Owner of Praise.

Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall

Meaning

They said: “Will human beings guide us?” and turned away.

Insight

According to Elmalılı, though their prophets came with clear proofs and miracles, they could not swallow a human being as messenger, and turned away.

Reflect

Look at what is said, not at who says it.
