Blowing Out the Light
يُرِيدُونَ لِيُطۡفِـُٔواْ نُورَ ٱللَّهِ بِأَفۡوَٰهِهِمۡ وَٱللَّهُ مُتِمُّ نُورِهِۦ وَلَوۡ كَرِهَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ ٨
Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light however much the disbelievers are averse.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
They want to extinguish Allah’s light with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, this depicts and belittles their efforts to defeat the truth: as if they could blow out the rising sun with a puff.
