You Cannot Make the Dead Hear
إِنَّكَ لَا تُسۡمِعُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ وَلَا تُسۡمِعُ ٱلصُّمَّ ٱلدُّعَآءَ إِذَا وَلَّوۡاْ مُدۡبِرِينَ ٨٠
Lo! thou canst not make the dead to hear, nor canst thou make the deaf to hear the call when they have turned to flee.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
You cannot make the dead hear, nor the deaf hear the call when they turn away.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, the dead here are disbelievers who do not hear the truth; so one must entrust matters to Allah.
