An Inheritance of Knowledge
وَوَرِثَ سُلَيۡمَٰنُ دَاوُۥدَۖ وَقَالَ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ عُلِّمۡنَا مَنطِقَ ٱلطَّيۡرِ وَأُوتِينَا مِن كُلِّ شَيۡءٍۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلۡفَضۡلُ ٱلۡمُبِينُ ١٦
And Solomon was David’s heir. And he said: O mankind! Lo! we have been taught the language of birds, and have been given (abundance) of all things. This surely is evident favour.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Solomon inherited from David and said: “We have been taught the language of birds.”
Insight
According to Elmalılı, per the hadith “prophets left not gold or silver but knowledge,” this was an inheritance of knowledge and prophethood, not wealth.
