They Worshipped Their Whims
Those concerning whom the Word will have come true will say: Our Lord! These are they whom we led astray. We led them astray even as we ourselves were astray. We declare our innocence before Thee: us they never worshipped.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
“We led them astray as we went astray; they did not worship us.”
Insight
According to Elmalılı, they misled them not by force but through their own desires; in truth they worshipped their own whims.
Reflect
Beware of worshipping your desires.
