Pledged to Its Deeds
كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ رَهِينَةٌ ٣٨
Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Every soul is held in pledge for what it has earned.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, every soul is bound to its earnings as a debtor with Allah; its happiness or misery matches what it earned. Doing good and paying its debt, it frees itself.
Reflect
Do a good deed today that sets you free.
