Our Fool Spoke Nonsense
وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطࣰا ٤
And that the foolish one among us used to speak concerning Allah an atrocious lie.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
“Our foolish one used to speak against Allah an excessive lie.”
Insight
According to Elmalılı, the fool is Iblis or the rebellious among the jinn; “shatat” means speech that oversteps bounds, far from truth, absurd.
Reflect
Don’t speak about Allah without knowledge.
