Do Not Raise Your Voices
O ye who believe! Lift not up your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor shout when speaking to him as ye shout one to another, lest your works be rendered vain while ye perceive not.
Translation: Marmaduke Pickthall
Meaning
Do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet.
Insight
According to Elmalılı, as the first verse forbids going ahead in word and deed, this forbids excess in the manner of speaking; deeds may be lost without one realising.
Reflect
Don’t raise your voice when you argue today.
